0. Summary
This BIP seeks to allocate BOTTO from the Community Initiatives Fund to continue testing instant rewards in Botto's next period starting in January 2025.
1. Rationale
Recently, an instant rewards feature was implemented for one round in Botto's app experience on Ethereum and Base, whereby active voters who staked at least 100 BOTTO and participated in the training of Botto were able to qualify for an airdrop of up to four selected memecoins.
The instant rewards feature was received favorably by many in the DAO. To build on the momentum of this positive reception and further test how instant rewards may be able to foster greater engagement in training Botto, it is suggested to allocate some BOTTO from the Community Initiatives Fund as recently approved in BIP-66 for distribution via instant rewards with Botto's next period at the start of 2025.
Note that the Community Initiatives Fund was first introduced with BIP-43 at the end of 2023. However, it was largely unused over the last year as there were no DAO proposals for allocating it; since this monthly budget is also capped, unused BOTTO does not roll over. Thus, this proposal is an attempt at fostering a proactive approach to activating the use of this fund with respect to testing instant rewards specifically.
2. Proposal Specifications
Allocate BOTTO from the Community Initiatives Fund to Instant Rewards: it is proposed to allocate 2K BOTTO a week, or 8K BOTTO per month, towards the testing of instant rewards for the 12 weeks of Botto's next period starting in January 2025.
This amount would be deducted from the 25K BOTTO per month apportioned for the Community Initiatives Fund. As such, this amount accounts for about one-third of the BOTTO set aside monthly for community initiatives, which leaves plenty of room for other ideas to be implemented for distributing the remaining two-thirds of the BOTTO available from this budget.
Monthly Distributions of BOTTO from Instant Rewards: active voters who stake at least 100 BOTTO and participate in training Botto will receive instant rewards in monthly distributions. Monthly distributions allow for operational simplicity in implementing this proposal.
As such, there will be three monthly distributions of 8K BOTTO total each towards instant rewards, accounting for the 12 weeks of Botto's next period starting in January 2025.
Proposal Scope: this proposal is limited to the continued testing of instant rewards as delineated for the 12 weeks of Botto's next period starting in January 2025.
The proposal will carry on as established and automatically renew in subsequent periods unless otherwise decided by the DAO in the future. As such, the specified amount of BOTTO from the Community Initiatives Fund may continue to be directed towards instant rewards, as applicable.
3. Criteria of Success
Increased engagement in training Botto as a result of the continuation of the instant rewards feature.
Improved data and insights around active voter participation from the continued testing of instant rewards.
Greater distribution of the BOTTO supply as a result of its allocation from the Community Initiatives Fund towards instant rewards.
4. Disadvantages
- The proposed allocation of 8K BOTTO per month from the 25K BOTTO a month set aside from the Community Initiatives Fund towards instant rewards may be perceived as limiting the use of the fund for other purposes, though in any case there would remain 17K BOTTO a month for distribution via other ideas.
