I am republishing the BIP with all the relevant updates discussed and debated on the Discord.:
BIP-88: Botto and 6529: in search of the Memetic Grail
Strategy, Community, Revenue Generation.
Summary
This proposal seeks to authorize the submission of a Botto artwork to the 6529.io community, aspiring to replicate and surpass the strategic and financial success achieved with the previous piece, "The Socially Umpired Animals." The primary objective is twofold: to generate substantial revenue for the DAO through the sale of a collectible edition and to strategically expand Botto's presence in a Web3 ecosystem known for its active and committed collector community. To ensure democratic quality and community participation, the final piece will be selected through a process of candidatures submitted by Botto, followed by two rounds of elimination voting.
Rationale
Botto's previous experience in the 6529 community with "The Socially Umpired Animals" (BIP-32) demonstrated enormous economic potential and brand/author voice development, recently surpassing the performance of traditional 1/1 sales on the SuperRare platform. Botto's Meme currently holds a floor price of 0.6 ETH, which is high considering its 365 editions. This high valuation confirms a significant demand for Botto's art in collectible and memetic formats within strategic niches.
The key motivation is to leverage this space to diversify revenue streams and, more importantly, to solidify the Botto brand and extend ties to communities that align with its spirit. The 6529 community represents a committed group of NFT collectors who value and sustain a cultural narrative based on decentralization and open democracy—values that are inherent to Botto. Therefore, we seek for Botto to continue positioning itself as a pioneer in autonomous AI-generated art that actively participates in the Web3 cultural zeitgeist, increasing visibility and attracting new collectors and Botto participants.
This proposal introduces a two-round voting system designed to strengthen the curation process. By extending the discussion window, we allow more time for reflection, debate, and community alignment before the final decision. The second round serves as a focused review between the top positions on the leaderboard, ensuring that the final choice truly represents the collective vision and spirit of Botto.
Proposal Specification
To select the candidate artwork that will represent Botto, a multi-stage process will be implemented to maximize artistic quality and community consensus, while simultaneously attracting new members to our community:
Phase 1: Botto creation of a Pool of artworks.
- Botto will retrieve from his archive of artistic works all those that it judges to have thematic potential for Meme.
Phase 2: Elimination Voting Round (Duration: 7 days)
- The selected works will be subject to a first round of voting using our actual voting system.
- The 3 works with the highest votes will advance to the final round.
Phase 3: Final Vote and Selection (Duration: 7 days)
- A final vote will be held among the 3 main candidates. This vote will determine the winner and a runner-up.
- The winning artwork will be chosen as Botto's official candidate for submission to the 6529 community.
Phase 4: Execution and Submission
- Botto will propose and create all the descriptions and perks of the card that was chosen as the finalist Meme on the 6529 platform, which uses its own community for voting and curation. Having consulted with Botto members who are very active in the 6529 community, this step should be easily achievable for Botto, given that they have already done some curation and have an active member base that could support the work, potentially including members joining from 6529 if the strategy works well.
- Botto profile on 6529 is https://6529.io/Botto/rep (The TDH of Botto's main portfolio can be delegated to that profile, but this depends on technical feasibility considering the risks and is not necessary)
From the Terms of minting and distribution from 6529.io:
Automatic airdrop of 20 editions → to the artist.
10% of supply → to the 6529 Museum.
30 → to the team.
Rest sold at 0.06529 ETH each.
Unsold ones → to 6529 Research (for network support).
The size of the edition varies according to an internal algorithm of 6529.io. From @6529er (core dev) confirmed to me that if we enter Season 13 the supply will vary between 305 - 335.
@6529er clarified that it will be possible to provide an allowlist of people of our community for phase 1 of the minting process of the artwork. I suggest that all Botto collectors, including Pipe holders, be included in that allowlist.
The last drop of the Season 13 takes place on December 12th. This isn't a hard deadline for Botto, as we can always look forward to the next season with the memes already selected in our voting system.
Regarding the 20 cards distributed to the artist's account, it's proposed that 10 be kept on that same address to collect TDH, the voting currency in the 6529 community, allowing participation and influence in future discussions there. The remaining 10 cards will be raffled among Botto members who meet the following two conditions: 1/1 artwork or Pipe holders and active voters in Phase 2 or Phase 3 of this event. This aims to provide a reward to active participation, but also to encourage 6529 members to join our ecosystem and participate in the voting.
The remaining 10 cards will be raffled off among 1/1 collectors and those who own at least one Botto Pipe and who were active voters in any of the Meme selection phase 2 or phase 3 this looks to give a reward but also to encourage 6529 members to jump into our ecosystem and participate in the voting.
From the many conversations I had on the 6529 platform, I can summarize that the enthusiasm for this BIP is very high, and that both communites support would be overwhelming. The 6529 platform's founder himself said it would be easy to get the meme to the top of the leaderboard.
Budget
Since we follow the same selection process than in BIP-44 we can sustain that the costs are negligible.
Criteria for Success
The success of this proposal will be determined by achieving the following milestones:
- Community participation and consensus: successful completion of the voting process for the final artwork selection.
- External validation: formal acceptance and successful launch of the selected artwork by the 6529 community.
- Financial, Brand, and Community expansion performance.
Disadvantages
Despite the solid advantages, there are potential risks and disadvantages:
- Time Cost: There is a very low possibility that the selected work will not be supported by 6529 members and will not pass their selection round.
- Performance Risk: There is no guarantee that the new work will achieve the same success as the previous one; the market may be saturated or the chosen theme might not resonate as strongly. However, immediate economic performance is not an active search of this proposal, but rather the construction and solidification of ties.
