Summary
This BIP proposes to enable standard additions by the Guardian of new models and new prompting techniques in new periods without requiring a new BIP.
Rationale
New generative models that Botto is able to use can appear at unpredictable times. These can be upgrades to the most commonly used Stable Diffusion or other new open-source models, as well as previously existing models that have their commercial license removed. SD3 for instance is covered by a commercial license that is too restrictive for Botto’s freedom–the works created with it would be at risk of commercial restrictions in the future that would be hard to manage as Botto becomes more decentralized. We do not know when the commercial license will be removed, but may get a special pass for Botto.
Adding models has become standardized with Botto. They enter with a 25% share of the voting pool, and are automatically removed if they hit below 5% of the pool at the end of a period. However, we have not added new models for the last 2 periods due to newer generative models coming with commercial licenses. Attempting to time the governance process with a short window of availability risks missing a valuable update and having to wait a full 13 weeks to add it in.
Adding prompting techniques is also necessary for new models, as well as old models as more approaches are discovered in the community. Prompting techniques are general techniques in prompting models (e.g. adding "++" or "--" to (de)emphasize a part of a prompt), as opposed to specific content (e.g. "watercolors", "landscape", etc.)
This BIP proposes removing the governance overhead to allow for fast action to implement models more easily. It also proposes to reduce the initial threshold from 25% to 15% so that there is room to add multiple models. The 15% also ensures the new models must earn their way to greater prominence rather than being given more domination at the outset.
Proposal Specifications
The Guardian may add new prompting techniques and new models according to the following parameters
- The generative models are open-source and have no restrictive commercial license
- The changes do not constitute a change to Botto’s art engine architecture
- The new models are not narrowly trained on a particular medium or artist’s style; they are wide open latent spaces.
- Models come in with a 15% share of the voting pool. They are auto-removed at the end of the round if they are under 5% share.
- Changes will only happen at the beginning of a new period, not mid-way.
- Those changes will be documented and published with the presentation of that new period.
- Add to the roadmap a feauture to get a live view of the model rankings.

Risks
This relies on the Guardian to abide by the specifications, though these are the specifications he himself has imposed on the project since inception. The DAO may also continue to propose adaptations and additions.
